A day in the life of an optom...

Sometimes I have those days where I wonder why it is I do what I'm doing... That is being an optom, of course..
Why did I choose optometry?
I won't go into details but part of the reason is I love the surprises that the job brings in terms of the patients I see.
Everyday is a brand new day, and everyday I will be reminded of tat reason alone.
I've come across patients who make me smile to my ears, and those who make me cursed and wish I was somewhere else but 'here' (thank god that dont happen too often!)

I see patients from all walks of life,
infants to preschool kids who just won't sit still and let me examine them,
to school age kids who won't even say a word when I asked them a question,
to teenagers who don't take me seriously (and yes.... I rather be somewhere other than here missy, you're not the only one),
not forgetting those who don't need glasses but want glasses coz' everyone else is wearing one and they think it's soooo coooolll!! (yes, i get those too!)
to mummies and daddies,
and not forgetting grannies... whom I have to 'shout' to (not at yeah :P) coz apparently I have a soft voice (btw, it was d sound system that made it into BB, NOT my voice :P)

Yupe, those are the perks of being an optom... Well, my perks anyway!!

Some moments I will always remember, like this patient of mine, a primary 2 girl this year, first came about 1 1/2 year ago.
I literally spent like 1+hr just to pujuk her to let me examine her!! hahaha I don't know how i had the patience, but I managed to get some readings from her.
And yupe, she wears glasses full time now, and yes... everytime she comes she requests to see me :D coz I'm not scary. hahaha. No, she's just shy, so the mum thinks it's easier if she sees the same person every single time.

Another one, this I just had to laugh. Happened this very morning, hence the need for me to note it down somewhere hehe.
So, yeah we have assistant to bring the patients in to our room.. And patient seated and I did the examination and everything... finished but just one thing didn't tally.
He said he's been coming to the clinic plenty of times but I couldn't find the notes anywhere. Decided to go out to check if he has another file somewhere, but when I checked into the system, he is a SHE!!
I was like... 'errrr there is a guy sitting in my room rite? He is a he rite?'
hahhahaha.
Ok, at this point I was thinking, they somehow got the wrong file... Same name, but different file... until...
Yes until my assistant said... hmmm I did ask him if his name was such and such...
So he went back to my room and asked the guy....
HE WASNT EVEN A SHE.
LOL.HAHHAHAHHAHA.

I had to sit down. Literally.
HAHHAHAHAHHA. Cracked me up brabis!!

That person got up, thinking it was him who was called.
And I finished examining him!!
Ya rabbi!!!! Imagine if I didn't ask the guy any questions.... but good thing I did :D

My patients just make me laugh eh!! Seriously. This one is a funny one too. Happened earlier in the year.
So came in the receptionist. I thought she needed something, but I was soooo wrong. She came to tell me a story. My story. haha.
I asked my last patient to make the next appointment out in front. He did and while at it, he asked whom it was he saw.
She answered 'Oh, that's Suhara.. bla bla bla'
'Melayu kah tu? Aku bagi salam awal2 sama ahir atu nda ia jawap bah'
(Okay must I answer out loud kah? And yes, of coz I heard him! And no, I wasn't ignoring him hehe)
'Ah... jgn tah kita heran andang alussssss tu suaranya atu. Kita kali nda kedengaran atau ia nda dgr kita'
'Ah bah... kirim salam saja ia'
HAHHAHHAHAHHA. MAJAL yeah? :P
I didn't realise I must behave in a certain way in handling patients. So they like to be looked at and us jawap salam.
Ok I will remember that.. Look at the person, jawap salam and smile :P
Know your manners suh hahhahaha.

My patients so many fuuuuunnnnehhhhhhh funny ones meh! LOL.Gotta love them.hahahaha.
